State Sweep Championship Information

Hi upper school rowing parents,

The 2017 FSRA State Sweep Championship is almost here. Here are some important details. They will leave for Sarasota at 10:30am on Friday from ESJ. They are trying to limit their stops, so the kids will need to pack a bagged lunch and full water bottle. They will also need their water bottles for practice on Friday in Sarasota. There will be additional waters and snacks on the buses. I will send out a reminder closer to the time. They will head down to the Nathan Benderson Park, to register, rig the boats, and practice. THE KIDS NEED THEIR SCHOOL ID TO REGISTER AND ROW. They will check into the hotel around 5:30-6, eat some Carrabbas and rest for the big weekend.

Saturday the races start at 8 am and the last race we could possible race in is at 4:42pm. The boys have five boats, 1V, 2V, 3V, 4V, and Freshman 8. The girls have four boats, 1V, 2V, Jr8 and Fresh 8. Attached is the preliminary schedule. When the final schedule comes out with lane assignments, it will be sent to you.

We have rented a 20x40 tent from the site and we will bring a 10x10 tent to add on. No other tents are allowed. This will also make setup easier. Throughout the day, the kids will be bused back and forth to the hotel. We don't want the kids to overheat. We also let them sleep in, if they are in a later race. There will be the customary snacks and drinks, but no lunches will be prepared. We need volunteer parents from each boat to take their kid's boat to lunch on Saturday only. I will send out a signup genius shortly. Please do not respond to this email to volunteer. The kids will have dinner at the hotel. It will be around 5:30, so there is plenty of time for parents to help serve dinner without missing happy hour at the parent dinner. A separate email regarding the parent dinner will be sent out soon.

Sunday the races start at 8am. The kids will check out in the morning. Lunch will be served at our tent for the rowers. We are offering steak wraps and turkey burgers. Buses plan to leave the regatta site at 5pm and arrive at the ESJ upper school drop off around 9:30.

Other odds and ends. Sarasota is hot and the venue is crowded! There are plenty of food trucks and tents that sell t-shirts and other rowing items.

NO PRACTICE MONDAY! Tuesday the kids will put away the boats and cleanup the boathouse at their regular practice time. We will need parent volunteers to empty out the trailers and help cleanup the singles bay.

Wednesday is the Banquet for the upper school boats.

The kids are staying at the Best Western Plus Bradenton Hotel & Suites at 648 67th Street Circle E, Bradenton, FL 34208. The phone number for the hotel is (941) 757-5555

Regatta race site: Nathan Benderson Park 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle, Sarasota, FL 34235

Go Eagles!!
