Hi upper school parents,
Thank you for everyone's help and support this past weekend with the Double Dual. We had some very good competition and great racing throughout the day. Next up is the OARs race on Turkey Lake in Orlando. Below is the info and itinerary I have at this time, but is subject to change.
OARS Regatta Saturday March 11th
We will depart at 12:15 on Friday from the Buck on two buses. School lets out at 11:30am for Grandparent's day. Rowers can attend, but need to be on the bus by 12:15. All other rowers will need bring a Bag Lunch for Friday and should bring a full water bottle. We will provide a snack for the bus.
We are heading to the race site to rig and practice and then to the hotel. Dinner will be provided at the hotel around 6.
Race Site- Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake in Orlando 3401 South Hiawassee Road Orlando Hotel- Hampton Inn & Suites 7448 International Drive, Orlando 407-313-3030
Boys and girls stay on separate floors and are chaperoned by the coaches. Rooms are typically divided up by boats. There are 4 kids to each room and all the cox stay together.
Morning breakfast at the hotel, typically around 5:50am and then leave around 6:20 for the course to race. Coach Cox meeting at 7am.
There are a number of people that have a room available at the Hampton Inn. Please check Facebook ESJ rowing. If you aren't on Facebook and you need a room, please let me know and I help connect you.
Race Info- Can be found at this link.
Schedule will be released mid week- When we get it, I will send to you.
Current Entries and event order- click here
Departing after race- Students need to stay until they are released by their coach. A note from Parent to Coaches/ sign out list is needed for those NOT going back on the bus. There will be two different bus departure times coming back to ESJ. Be in touch with your child on final return time. Kids will be brought back to the Buck
The Signup Genius will go out shortly. The amount of work is less but just as important. We need you!
This weekend is Bike week in Daytona; so drive safe. Bring chairs, bug spray, ESJ clothes, binoculars, drinks, a tent if you have it and sunscreen. Bring tennis shoes, because there are ants. We are putting down ant killer, but I'm not sure how well it will work.
If you have a tent, please bring it. Last year, the sun was harsh and people were struggling to find shade. It may not be needed, but at least we will be covered. The sun is harsh. Last year, there were food carts there. I can't promise they will be there this year. Turkey Lake is close to a lot of great places to eat. We usually take off and grab lunch. Kids only race once.
Student accounts will be billed for the shared coast of Hotel and Bus.
Kids will need uniform, sun screen, comfy clothes for vegging, practice clothes, and overnight stuff. They can bring money for snacks at the hotel, games, books and other items for fun. If you have any questions, please let me know.
