Overnight Regatta FAQS

Hi rowing parents,

There have been a number of questions regarding the hotels for the three travel regattas. Here's some additional information that may help.

Q: Are there rooms still available at the three hotels?

A:

  • The OARS hotel in Orlando said that 14 of the 15 rooms in our block are booked. I am trying to add additional rooms. Please let me know if you still need a room. I will let you know if they become available.

  • The Sprint League hotel in Tampa has only one double queen room left in the block. I was able to add 5 standard King rooms for $165. I don't know if this is the best rate, but it's what they gave me.

  • State Sweeps in Tampa have no rooms left in our block or the hotel. The hotels book up fast here. If you plan to go to States, please book another hotel soon.

Q. Do we need to book hotel rooms for the kids?

A. No, The kids have a separate block of rooms. They'll ride down on the team bus. They typically stay four to a room. They divide the rooms up by boats. For example, the Girls Varsity 1 boat will be divided into two rooms. The coxswains all stay in one room together. There is no room switching. Boys and their coaches stay on one floor and girls on another.

Q: Can our child stay with us?

A: No, this is a team bonding experience.

Q: Do we have to go to the away regattas?

A: No, Buses will take your child down and back. However, I recommend it. It's a lot of fun.

Q: Do we have to stay in the same hotel as the kids?

A: Of course not. The rooms book up fast. To help make things easier and possibly cheaper for you, I reserved a block of rooms. You can stay anywhere you want.

Q: Are those the best prices?

A: They are the best the hotel could give. It is always recommended to try and find a lower price.

Q: Can my child leave after their race?

A: No, typically everyone stays and supports their teammates. Coaches will release the kids when the races are over. There are exceptions. Also, if your child plans to not ride home on the bus, either with you or a friend, please make sure the coach is aware. The regattas are big places and they will not leave until every rower is accounted for.

If you have any more questions, please let me know. I will send out more details about each regatta as we get closer.

See you Saturday!
